Services Overview
Our programs are designed to help children with special
language-learning needs develop the verbal communication
skills necessary to participate confidently and successfully
in family, social, and academic activities.
During the school year:
- The Scottish Rite Clinic provides screening and diagnostic
services to individual children ages 3-6.
See Clinic information. - Wings on Words Program offers a language-based
curriculum for young children with and without
speech/language delays. Therapy is included within the
curriculum for children with impaired speech/language
skills.
See Program Information. - The Child Language Center's Community Outreach Project
provides teacher-training, parent programs, and
speech/language/hearing screening for Tucson-area
preschools.
See Outreach Information.
During the summer months:
- Wings on Words Summer Day Camp for children with and
without speech/language delays. This 6-week day camp (M - F)
experience is for children 3-6 years of age. Full- and
part-time enrollment is available. The camp has been designed
to boost young children's speech and language development.
Each day includes fun in the room, individualized
learning activities, and small group therapy sessions for
children with impaired speech/language skills. The staff
includes experienced, certified teachers and speech-language
pathologists with a very low staff-to-child ratio.
See WOW Camp information.
Science, Service, & Education
- All screening, evaluation, and therapy sessions are
performed or supervised by speech-language pathologists
who hold a Master’s degree and Clinical Certification from
the American
Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The
clinic serves as a service, research, and educational
training center. Thus, in most cases, a graduate student
is involved in the services provided to children. These
students are enrolled in the Department of Speech and
Hearing Sciences at The University of Arizona where they
are receiving course work and professional education.
